When choosing a new kitchen floor, we always recommend thinking about durability, practicality, and of course aesthetics. You want your floor to make a design statement. However, you also want the floor to last and to be easy to maintain.
There are many kitchen flooring options available. There are a variety of materials, colors, and textures to choose from. Here are some ideas and considerations to help you get started on your new flooring journey.
1. Resilient Flooring
Resilient flooring options include vinyl and linoleum. These surfaces are affordable and can be installed quickly. They come in sheets, tiles, or strips. Resilient flooring is a soft surface that is very forgiving. And, it is easy to maintain.
2. Stone and Tile
Stone and ceramic or porcelain tiles are quite durable. They are available in a wide variety of colors and textures. Stone or tile is the best choice for heavy traffic areas. Stone can provide a warm and classic feel while tile affords you the opportunity to mix and match colors and patterns for a more contemporary look.
Both are easy to clean. However, some stone requires being sealed periodically.
3. Wood
Wood is a great flooring for a warm and comfortable look and feel. There are several varieties of wood floorings, including oak, pine, cherry, maple, bamboo, and even cork, to name a few. You can have the floor stained, pickled, or just sealed. Engineered wood flooring is prefinished and can be installed without the mess of staining and sealing.
Wood floors can be cleaned by sweeping or mopping. Most wood floors do need to be sanded and resealed periodically.
4. Laminates
High-pressure plastic laminates are an affordable alternative to a wood floor. These have the look of wood planks and are pre-finished. There are more color and texture options than you might find in natural wood. This material is durable and not difficult to maintain.
